The Investigating Officer in the case against suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, has told the Randburg Magistrate's Court that he should not be released on bail, as there is a high likelihood he may harm the complainants.

On day two of his bail application, the state's first witness, Sergeant Ndlovu, presented her affidavit detailing how WhatsApp messages confirm Sibiya communicated with a 16-year-old girl and asked her to send explicit images and videos of herself.

Ndlovu told the court there is strong evidence indicating Sibiya will attempt to interfere with the state's case.

Sibiya was arrested last week on charges of rape, human trafficking and the alleged sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl, with a new charge of contravening the Firearms Control Act added to his charge sheet yesterday.

To unpack the legal ramifications of this case, SABC News is joined by Jean-Pierre Venter.
